Link: Wayne Ellington Lived the Life At UNC

I saw this link on another website and thought I'd share it. It seems this could be a major NCAA violation that went uncaught. I'm not really familiar with the NCAA rules nor am I sure how credible this website is, but if this is true it seems like it's clearly an NCAA violation.

This needs to be read by everyone. Wow

If only it compared to selling tickets and shoes maybe we could have years of coverage about it.

If only it compared to selling tickets and shoes maybe we could have years of coverage about it. Is the local media just going to turn their eyes to it?

Would suck if UNC had to vacate their National Championship. Wonder what Bobby Knight would say about Roy after his comments about Calipari.

I did the searches myself and they came up identical. The problem is that I don't know for sure whether those are Ellington's parents or not. If we know that, then we have something.

sea wolf - What are the odds that it is not? I'd actually be surprised about this, Ellington seems like a good enough kid w/ a decent background - still, Roy has gotten in trouble w/ the NCAA before....

Oh yeah - and don't count on anything from Dave Glenn, the ACC, the N&O or anyone else.

I see it much as I saw the John Edwards thing, they won't touch it until it's almost a non-story.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Maybe we need to call the enquirer?

Yeah I wasn't sure myself, SeaWolf. It seems like such a blatant NCAA violation if all of it is true that I don't understand how UNC would be so sloppy about it, which leads me to think they must have bent a rule or something. If it does/did happen to be a NCAA violation it sure would be one hell of a bombshell. Like I said in my original post I can neither confirm nor deny any of the info but I wanted to share it because the more people that look into it might have some relevant additional info.

If only this guy were as credible as Peter Golenbock, then the N&O might publish excerpts from the blog all over the front page of the paper, and report it as the indisputable truth.

The Tax Bills clearly show that they were paid by James Mason at that address from 2006 to 2009. http://www.ustaxdata.com/nc/durham/durhamtaxlist.cfm?parcelNum=179567

Why would the Ellington's be using that address for their car tax bills? (which according to the site, were never paid)

This one goes in the same category as Tyler Hansbrough's Mom getting hired as the chief fund raiser for the UNC Dental School. UNC just states that the hire was proper and how she got the job completely on merit. This is the only incidence of a news story I've ever seen about someone being hired for a State job that did not include anything about the salary of the position.

So how credible is this, really? Cause this something that could really turn into a big deal if true. That is, if the N&O really gives two shits about pursuing it.

Right now all it does is anger me when I think back about how much the whole Valvano thing was such a non-issue, yet it ultimately led to a huge downfall of our basketball program.

I saw it on the carolinasucks.com but I wasn't sure about linking it. My feeling is that UNC has always participated in these types of things and as usual it will disappear and be swept under the rug. Roy will say"ahh shucks, I'm but a poor mountain boy". Am I wrong in praying this one sticks? I feel like if any such scandal at unx is ever going to break, the stars are beginning to align.

    Reggie Bush.

    Give me a break.

Those days of suits and shoes are over.

Oh...by god let me get laid by a Tennessee sweetie.

That's why I can't stand them because I believe they get by with a whole lot of stuff like this.

Although I know it won't make a difference, we all need to email the people at N&O, WRAL, WTVD, and any other news outlet you can think of to let them know of this situation.

This looks like a good opportunity for Statefansnation to make a name for itself with an in-depth, longform enterprise investigative expose that is stocked with numerous examples of UNC improprieties, all substantiated with tax records, liens, W2s, etc.

So who is going to have at it?

If they caught no heat for Forte's mom working for Octagon, his future agents... if there's nothing around Tyler's mom getting a job at the university... then nothing will come of this.

And people wonder why we hate them? We hate the treatment they get compared to what we were put through, yes, 20 years ago. We hate the double-standard. We hate the illusion that they're pristine from an academic and "doing-things-right" standpoint.

In the end, they're us. But the media that they own creates a different version of reality - and it works.

Dean Smith did an investigation and found no improprieties.

wolfonthehill - You're exactly right. It's amazing what the media will ignore in some folks, but expose of others.

I've sent this article to N&O, WRAL, and Deadspin. Along with promoting it as much as I can on the internet. I suggest everyone else send it to whomever...hopefully this one sticks. It just seems way too shady and way too obvious!

    Great post, wolfonthehill

You guys are all making a mountain of a molehill!

Kind of like suspending Chris Washburn for a semester for stealing a stereo while King Rice never missed a game for be arrested for beating up a woman in public after underage drinking and resisting arrest.

Dean's response? He was blowing off steam during the stress of exams.

Move along. Nothing to see here. LOL!

phish, I found a Yahoo! college hoops blog called The Dagger and found the editor's email address you could try.

His name is Eamonn Brennan and the email is thedaggerblog@yahoo.com

I've never heard of that blog personally but might be a good place to start? Seems like Yahoo! sports basketball page links to several of his blog posts.

You can also send it to Dan Wetzel, not sure if he has any allegiances though :-)

UNC-Ch doesn't commit violations. Doesn't matter what they do. The rules will be changed to make it legal.

    NCAA rules are a joke.

Wayne Ellington the bball player is a "Junior", middle name Robert, the same name that appears on the tax role, which is supposedly Wayne Robert Ellington, Sr.

I just Eamonn an email. What's his twitter account, I'd like to send him something on there as well. It was just retweeted
by a digg Twitter account. Haven't gotten any hits from it yet though.

You mean its NOT OK for an alumni and booster to provide luxury housing for free to a player's family?!
    Who knew.
BTW, better check and see who paid his way to private school his senior year as well.

Well, having been on the rules committee of the NC2A I'm sure roywonderboy knows all the angles.

So much for calling or texting a player one too many times.
