The NCAA and NCSU booster rules are so laughably outdated. By their standards, as you said, everybody here is a booster.
It's funny really. Does anybody actually try to follow these things to the letter?

All I know is that prospective D1 athletes are someone I try to stay away from. First off, I don't ever want there to be ANY chance of it even LOOKING like I did something wrong. Secondly, let's face it, guys like Wolfpack Hoops have poisoned the well for us lowly bloggers.

Poor Lane. He must have figured if it was ok at USC, it must be ok at Tennessee. I guess he hasn't realized that all schools are not treated equal by the NCAA.
For those who do not know, Lane was at USC from 2001-2006, and was among other things, the recruiting coordinator for 3 of those years, and all 3 of those years USC had the #1 recruiting class in the nation. Imagine that, w/ all those recruiting guideline 'gaffs' at TN, you'd think he had no experience w/ recruiting... hahaha... his experience is limited w/ following the rules, not with recruiting. Btw, USC's recruiting class rankings have been falling ever since he left, coming in at #13 for 2010.
The 'rules' were more like guidelines at USC. If Snoop Dog could party w/ the team, I'm sure there were a few 'hostesses' hanging around...

Plus the fact we're State, these kind of things always have a way of blowing up in our faces with ol' N&O breathing fire down our backs the second we do something half discreditable

And the Stately Ladies... They were officially disbanded by the University. Not because of any misdeeds, but because of problems w/ such programs at other Universities.
State thought the time had passed for such organizations and was concerned about the perceived image of such an organization, and how that might reflect upon the school and the 'ladies'.
Being a Stately Lady was something of an honor. Academics, character, interviews, etc where all components of being selected. And no offense to them, but if you ever saw a 'team' photo of them, it was obvious their purpose was NOT to lure recruits. Of course there were always some 'hotties' in the mix, but a 'hotness' factor was definitely not a requirement.
Hosting recruits was only part of their responsibilities. They also were served as ushers for the chancellor, hosted visiting dignitaries and invited guests, and worked various other campus events.
And some people wonder why a kid who commits his sophomore year would consider reopening his recruitment even if he thought he might likely stay with the original school....

2009- Don't think sex won't sell some of these guys, whether it's from the official rep of the university or not. Sure some of these studs are getting pumped by all kinds of little miss hot tail at home.I come from a similar type town. Little miss hot tail usually looks like what you'd expect from anywhere USA, not a pushed up, painted up, sexual Barbie Doll, one that is willing to do more tricks than your dog for the bone you give him. Most of these guys have never seen the kind of stuff that is coming after them when they leave home.
And Hoops has it right, these play pretties like to get laid more than the guy. It's a rush to them, at least until they mess up and get knocked up or burned out and used up. Stud then jumps to Barbie II.
That is just life. Anyone that says it doesn't go on is in fantasy land.

I never claimed anything of the sort and I want it duly noted that I have never been that delusional. If anything, I gave an example of the theory that sex does sell. My objection is at the idea that this sort of thing is rampant (girls being sent from athletic departments "under the table" to lure recruits to their university via "any means necessary". I just tend to believe that the vast majority of programs out there have some standards that not even they will cross.
...that is my one and only point I have been stating. This idea that I think sex doesn't win recruits is just being read into from some of the responses from hoops.
Bruce Pearl fathered half of the "people" on the MTV show "Jersey Shore." I know this to be fact.

The biggest problem at State is that we don't have enough indigenous good looking gals to compete with the SEC! Lane is just using what he has at his disposal.

I used to head to Athens every single weekend I was a student at State. My roommates used to bitch because I was never around... until they finally went with me.
Hell... no lie... one summer session I was taking classes in Raleigh and had a part-time job in Athens at the Clarke County swimming pool. Beat that, ladies.
Though I will say this, Goldenchain... NC State is getting better all the time. The growth of CHASS and the business school have certainly helped on that front.

I'm not sure why it's suprising that this trip would be challenged. What about the Facebook page that had to be taken down trying to recruit John Wall to NCSU? It seems to me that if Students puting up a Web Page about a kid trying to get him to come to a school is wrong, then having OFFICIAL SCHOOL REPS waving signs at the High School would be even more highly scrutinized.

Golden, coming from a family of Georgians, I would tend to agree with you...but then I spent some time in SoCal and some time in Texas and I think I can fairly say that both states would be happy to get into that discussion.

Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin said he takes investigations of the school’s recruiting practices as a compliment.Kiffin said the strength of Tennessee’s recruiting class, ranked by most analysts near the top nationally, has caused the unusual amount of interest in the Volunteers’ methods, which are under investigation by the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference.
“I think when it comes to recruiting, we’re at the highest level, and I think that people really want to know what we’re doing,” Kiffin said after practice Saturday. “They want to know how are we able to get interest from so many great players, and sign so many great players, so I think you have a lot of people coming at us.”
Lane Kiffin has lost his mind. He managed to be an arrogant idiot and also taunt a serious NCAA investigation in a recent interview. UT's AD needs to go into damage control mode and shut him up before Kiffin gets them put under permanent probation. =P
