Sendek's Sun Devils will take on the Dukies tonight. In his ten years at state, Sendek went 3-21 against Krzyzewski.

This will be an ass kicking. Just like the many that Herb took from K when he was here.
No way! All I have read for the last 3+ years is how great of a coach that Herb is and how fantastic of a program that he has built at Arizona State. With this said, obviously this fantastically strong program at ASU is ready for the Dukies (playing without one of their best players in Plumlee).

The commentary for the game is going to consist of about 50% describing the beating Duke is giving ASU and the rest about how underappreciated and great Sendek is.

The pre-game featured plenty of Herb-bashing. Most fun I've ever had watching ESPN.

If Herb "Wooden" Sendek was so goddamned great, how come he landed at the traditional powerhouse of ASU?

Watching this makes me nostalgic for the glory years of 1996-2006.
I can't believe we fired him for the safety of his family.

It's seriously comical. Has there ever been a coach in any sport ever whol had morfe people constantlylobbying for him? we all know the weaknesses behind the idiotic "couldnt beat unc and duke but no one else could either" argument, but even aside from that who has been the benefactor of such incessant puffery, either true or like in this case just blatantly false?
Did you guys know Herb was underappreciated?

These guys really just don't get it. They mentioned Herb went roughly 100-50 during his last 5 years....failed to mentioned the cupcake out of conference or his ACC record. The best was when they mentioned his 3-21 record against K with the excuse, well...err everyone loses to Duke. They seriously said that.

You'll notice that the announcers always stop sniffing Herb's jock when his teams are entrenched in their patented 8-min scoring drought. That's when they start talking about UConn.
and the game started with the textbook "they need the threes to fall to have a chance". how can these guys not connect the dots? this game is typical Herb.... better team plays like ass and scoring drought and low shooting percentage means his team fails to take advantage of the opportunit. duke shot like 14% from 3 in the first half. ASU failed to take advantage by losing all momentum and the lead just before half by letting duke score the last 6 points of the half. Duke never looked back. ASU got one fiegoal the last 10.... 10..... frickin minutes. Herb can't call a TO and get a bucket to break the drought. Beatdown commenced thereafter.
I'd love to hear herb's postgame comments. "we didn't execute the plan and we didn't hit open shots." he'll backhandedly throw his guys under the bus. (newsflash herb: no team regularly hits 75% from the 3.) then of course he'll chop some wood and speak some other meaningless words.

another classic performance - 1 FG in final 10 minutes, consecutive possessions of shot clock violation-lost jump ball-pass thrown out of bounds (with a fouled duke 3pt shooter thrown in). Beautiful how right on all of your pregame predictions were.
women and children should not be allowed to watch the last 10 minutes of a herb-coached offense.

you know, I've always wondered about that - from the few games I was able to watch, it seemed like Herb's defense was fantastic his first few years, but got slack over the years, even as his W-L got marginally better. Anybody have any insight into that one?

That is HWSNBN's goal. To make the game as ugly as possible so he can hopefully shoot enough threes to squeak out a win. It was moronic when he was here and it is still moronic.
We have the final four, the sweet sixteen and the Sendek ceiling (round of 32).

I was going to start a new thread but I do not want a ton of HWSNBN threads so I will say this...
Those who can do, those who cannot teach.
Herb has 8 former assistant coaches that are current head coaches. They apparently learn exactly what not to do then go out and out perform him.
It is also telling that just like all the transfers he runs coaches off as well.

Sendek is a great defensive coach, give him his due. Unless he has a naturally great scorer -- a Harden, a Hodge -- his offense is far below average. Weave and Heave, Flex, doesn't matter.
Just imagine Lowe's offense and Herb's defense put into one team. THEN you would have something.

Defense is basically effort with a little bit of technique.
Anyone willing to work their butt off can be a good defender.
IMO defense is the easiest part of the game to be good at.
