    Seriously great news:

    http://www.news-record.com/content/2009/11/19/article/gds_oak_ridge_will_prep_crowd_for_bobcats

Earlier in that game, swingman Jay Canty, the former Ragsdale star and recent Xavier signee, sprained his ankle. Two days prior, Joseph Uchebo, the Cadets' 7-foot, N.C. State-bound Nigerian center, also rolled his ankle.

UChebo is a Class of 2012 prospect that I have seen listed from anywhere from 7'0 to 6'9. (You guys just wait until the year after the year after the next one!!)

    From Georgia Elite Magazine:

A cross between Magic Johnson and Tracy McGrady. Only has played two years. Formerly played soccer. He is quick, agile, can score to his left and right, great ball-handler and even plays point-guard at times for the Elite to show is great passing skills. Has 3-point range to go along with a killer attack the basket game.

Dave Telep has a little more measured assessment:

Joseph Uchebo, C, Oakridge: The Nigerian is 6-foot-9 and boasts wide shoulders. Like that he’s got a drop-step dunk in his game but has a long way to go in terms of feel. The effort is unquestioned and he’s ahead of most of his countrymen at this stage.

A cross between Magic Johnson and Tracy McGrady

    Hyperbole much?

Why not a cross between Jesus and the Bodhisatva?

Well that cross between Magic and Jesus was from his aau teams press release but, now we can say WTNY,WTNY,WTNY.

I can understnd the WTNY sentiment but you have to admit it is a little over the top when good news becomes bad news because of it. That's just silly.

How does good news become bad news because of a sarcastic comment that has deep roots in reality & history for Wolfpack fans?

I know. I probably would have been much harsher had it come from someone here. :) Saying things like that are an excellent way to not be taken seriously.

Sorry I just had to. I want us to do well just as much as the next guy. But 2012 is a long long way off.

He is a top 50 prospect for 2012 according to several rating services I looked at. Of course, this is 3 years away, but Harrow and Leslie were strong sophomore targets, if I remember correctly.

How could anybody with "unquestioned effort" ever be compared to Tracy McGrady? The Rockets are so much better without SheMac that it's unbelievable.

Here's what I don't get - how is someone's game a cross between Magic and McGrady??

I mean, they are both 6-9 - one could play the point, the other could not...It's like saying someone's a cross between Curtis Marshall and Javi Gonzalez.

Great news. I think the staff's track record of identifying guys at this stage speaks for itself(Harrow, Leslie, and the kid who chose Duke last year over everyone in the country from Cary).

We signed Leslie early also, lets not get too excited for another year or so. If the kid improves, other programs will surely come knocking.

Still plenty of time for Cal, roywonderboy, etc to snake him away.

And one is a world-class athlete and the other...wasn't. And one was a great shooter and the other....wasn't.

    It's an absurd comparison

...and now he's at WOG. Another good sign for us as Coach Enersto Hatchett is squarly in our corner.

Maybe they mean he's truly a cross in that he's tall, kind of athletic, and can kind of shoot.

Maybe so. Maybe if they had to rank him, they'd put somewhere in the top 10,000 players. Somewhere between #1 and #10000.

We did not "SIGN" Leslie early. There is no signing before November of your senior year. We got a verbal commitment from Leslie which has since been rescinded, although we genuinely remain firmly in the running.

Telep projects him to be a legit high major prospect. That is good enough for me at this point in light of how successful Sidney & staff were at identifying Harrow & Leslie so early.

In case you havn't seen this. Apparently CJ Leslie drove down to spend the weekend with Ryan Harrow and to see Ryan put on a show and go off for a career high 47 points. Yep, 47.

There is some additional info at the WPH's forum. One poster has posted a link to some video of the game.

I have to give Sid the benefit of the doubt on this one. He has an eye for recognizing talent early in exceptional players as evidenced by his offers to Wall, Leslie, Harrow, Brown before they were on anyone's radar as top-level D1 prospects (He was also involved with Favors and Cousins very early in their recuitment.). I firmly believe that Scott Wood will also be in that category in the near future. Go Pack!

I 100% agree. How can one NOT be a little excited about a 7-footer who is athletic and versatile on the court and Dave Telep projects as a high-major prospect?

I hope Joe U. is a cross between Magic and McGrady, but I would settle for cross between Akeem O. and Alonzo M! Just kidding--I remember when Dinky Proctor was hailed as the next Magic Johnson.
