NC State's men's soccer team just defeated UNC 4-1 on penalty kicks to advance to the semi-finals of the ACC tournament.
Carolina Fans 2001: Soccer is the most globally relevent sport in the world. We are obviously the most forward/globally thinking athletic program as shown to our dedication to sports with international appeal.
Carolina Fans 2009: Who cares. It's not like it's a REAL sport, anyway...
[Alternate 2009 Response: JUST YOU WAIT 'TILL BASKETBALL SEASON!]
State just finished off BC 1-0, scoring in the 6th minute off a header and clinging to that lead for the rest of the game, despite BC laying siege to the Wolfpack goal--Eagles had maybe their best chance with 15 seconds left on the clock, when the BC striker turned in the box and smashed a shot off the left post. Talk about your narrow escapes...
Anyway, this puts State in the ACC men's soccer final for the first time since 1990[!], and Virginia already did us a huge favor by taking out top-seeded Wake Forest on penalty kicks. So it's us vs. the 5-seed Cavaliers, in Cary, 1 PM, Sunday. If you have any way to get there, please do--not like championship games are exactly thick on the ground for us right now. And if you can't get there--like me in England--watch on ACC Select, and cheer the Wolfpack on from wherever you are.
Go State!
Congratulations to the men's soccer team
