I remember when Amato would reference his Italian heritage when talking about going to Amadeo's with Mazzone and someone else who was of Italian background and talk about the food they would eat and wine they would drink and said it was BECAUSE they were Italian. I guess he was disrespecting his heritage by being so stereotypical.

I get ABC's response. I understand why they have to do what they're doing. I just think it's dumb that they do.

Our society is all about dividing up the population into subgroups of subgroups, yet it's to the point where you can't even identify someone's race publicly without being "racist." I'm sure anyone who's ever experienced real racism would not put Griese's taco comment in the same category.

No, he was being a dumbass.

Seriously...who are these people that DONT like italian food? Ask 100 people what kind of food they like and 85-90 of them will IMMEDIATELY reply, "Italian food."

Amato thinks everyone in Amedeo's eats there because they're italian? That explains a lot. Or is that he thinks he's SUPPOSED to eat there because he's Italian?

Let's not call it Italian food. Isn't that a little racist? Do Italian people really just eat noodles with sauces and cheese and garlic bread?

BTW, it was a combination of the two. He was saying that they ate there (he and his Italian pals) because they are Italian and they like to eat Italian food.

PackerInRussia, I know. Just word playing. In fact some archeologists trace a good deal of Italian cuisine back to China. Great food, worst drivers in the world.

You know, I haven't actually listened to Griese's comment, so I may be wrong about the context. But it sounds to me like it was caused by something other than racism. Namely, the notion that's arisen over the last decade or so that all sports announcers are supposed to be some kind of comedians. There may be a place for that on something like the Fox NFL pregame show, but not during the games themselves. Not only is that out of place, but they flat out suck at it. Just to name one, Doc Walker may be funny to his mom, but I dare say no one else.

And its not just TV and radio, its spread to print media too. That's my main beef with Giglio at the N & O. When he sticks to straight analysis and commentary he's pretty good. But it's like he can only stand to go so long without trying to be cute.

I think it would be best for all concerned if the pros would just leave comedy to folks like Akula Wolf and Deadspin, who are so much better at it.
