Terps are going to lose to Duke.
I know that nobody likes the Troll...but, this article from earlier in the year is good work:

Because from 2001-03, I saw the Maryland football program. I knew that program, and that coach, and it didn't look anything like this program. Or like this coach, for that matter. Ralph Friedgen is more than 100 pounds lighter than he was in those days, more of a mini-fridge than the deluxe double-wide he was in 2001. After losing all that weight, he's a shell of himself -- but then, so is his program. It's a shell of itself.
And I don't get it. Nor can you make me get it. I was there in 2003. I saw what I saw. And I didn't see 2009 looking like this for Maryland.
From 2001-03, Friedgen was the miracle man. He took Ron Vanderlinden's players, who weren't thought to be all that good, and won 31 games in three years. Presumably Friedgen had golden momentum on the recruiting trail, and definitely he had golden name recognition. He was the national coach of the year and he had other teams, even some in the NFL, sniffing around. He was hot, and he was a Maryland graduate, and with alumni freaking out that the great man might leave, the school did the smart thing in 2004 by extending his contract through 2011. Friedgen was locked up, and Maryland football was on the way.
But to here? Maryland football was on the way ... here?
This is no place for the Maryland football team to be. It's no place for any football team to be. The Terps are 1-3 with the lone victory coming against Division I-AA James Madison -- in overtime. The Terps were blown out by California and also lost to Middle Tennessee State. Now Rutgers.
...and now Duke

Not sure I understand what happened either. They were a well coached team, certainly found a way to whip our asses when Philip was here, and single handedly kept us from winning the ACC in '02 and getting to the Gator Bowl in '03.
1) Vanderlinden was a damn good recruiter. Not much of a head coach, but a very good recruiter.
2) Friedgen has had a couple of critical recruits either not pan or just not show up.
Yay, a team we might be able to beat! Key word being "might."
I truly thought they were on their way to being a real power. As the troll stated in his column -- they didn't capitalize.
Fear (not) the Turtle.
Thank goodness the Fridge pulled Steve Slaton's scholarship offer and went with Keon Lattimore instead. And Slaton paid him back too, 195 and 2 TDs as a soph and 137 and 3 TDs as a junior.

Those games were fun to watch knowing the background. It was just like watching Willie Parker play for the Steelers so I can laugh at Bunting and his supporters at TTP.
Duke dropped 50+ on us. I know we are bad, but if they can do that they can surely beat the Terps.
If Maryland can beat Clemson and "only" lose to Duke by 4, they can certainly beat us.
Beat us? Someone will have a career day that might make them worthy of weekly hardware from the local and perhaps national media. Bank on it.
It's just like the Evans, Beck, and Burke days where some obscure defensive back would have multiple interceptions. Were doing it all over again.
If I was an ECU fan, I might start getting nervous about now. Skip Holtz' star may indeed be dimming a little down there, and he may be realizing that he can never achieve his goals at a non-BCS school in a state with four BCS teams.
That said, he will certainly be in the mix for a number of jobs after the season, perhaps Maryland included.
I was at the ECU / Rice game last weekend. Most I talked to generally didn't seem to think Skip was that great a coach. Most of them seemed to want Logan back. Of course, he light years better than the previous guy (forgot his name), but they swear they could do better. Made me laugh.
UMD already has a coach-in-waiting.
^ All bets are off if Fridge is unplugged, right?
John Thompson is the name you're trying to remember, packplantpath.
