Rashard Smith's health had been discussed on several threads, so thought I'd just post as its own thread to serve as an announcement.
TOB just announced on Adam Gold's show that Smith is definitely out for the year. Said he has the same injury Toney Baker had.
Damn.
So much for the validity of the 2-deep depth chart released the other day that has Rashard Smith listed as a starter.
Is it possible that the spirit of Jeff Gillooly has been haunting our football team?
Here we go again. Anyone know the status of Byrd or Byers?
Oops. Sorry Statefans. Just noticed you had already posted about Smith in the Depth Chart thread.
Well, I guess this means we can't hold this year's poor record over TOB's head either.
[/sarcasm]
^ My thoughts exactly.
Are we destined to perennially suck?
Maybe I should go to grad school somewhere with a successful athletics program so I can root for a winning team.
I'm feeling a little down about all of this negative player news and what it means for our team's success this year given our schedule AND what it will mean for future recruiting.
If recruiting is down a already, what does that mean if we have a bad year?
There is no way our true freshman can be any kind of impact players unless they came from a very similar sytem.
I would like to know every single CB we have. Year, experience, performance last year, etc. :(
Injuries are not an excuse for the record anymore. If your team ALWAYS gets injured more than other teams then the coach is doing something wrong. And if you don't believe that and you believe the "bad luck" reason, then you are superstitious and using that logic it is the coach that is the "bad luck charm."
^I was talking specifically of Rashard Smith who was a true freshman last year, and yet had an impact.
Would have had more of one this year. A CB with some good experience and athleticism would have helped improve our defense compared to last year, where we needed it most.
My thoughts were this: player injuries and suspensions can tip the balance between wins and losses, potential recruits see this and go elsewhere. Death spiral.
^^ I understand what you are saying.
The coach has nothing to do with the injuries. If it wasnt for the scale of them the past 2 years I would agree that it shouldnt affect how I judge TOB. But it does affect it.
It would be nice to see a comparison of our Strength and conditioning program with others around the country. Has the staff made any changes after the debacle of recent years?
I remember TOB saying in an interview that they essentially did just that. I think he said they didnt find anything they were going wrong.
O'brien saying they weren't doing anything wrong would be like Annabelle Vaughn saying she was the best SID in the ACC.
.... TOB has another excuse why we have another shitty year. So done with him, anything less then 7 wins and he needs to go. People thinking differently have got to start thinking more of our program or we will always be stuck in the mud.
^^Are you really comparing TOB to Annabelle Vaugn.
THE Annabelle Vaugn?
Thats just mean.
-------------------------------------
Here I go again.
What is TOB doing that makes our players injured?
If you can answer that and blame him for it, he should be fired.
i haven't ever hers TOB specifically cite injuries as a crutch or excuse....he had just acknowledged how dire the situation is when asked in interviews.
i`d really find it hard to pin stuff like car accidents and guys falling down stairs (playing pick up b-ball) in the off season on TOB....
as far as the injuries sustained in practice or games: shoot, your guess is as good as mine as to what TOB is directly doing (or not doing) for players to drop like flys....
all the while, this still sucks. hopefully this will be it for a while...
Of course TOB is not directly responsible fo the injury, but is responsible for the depth. And we have no depth. Let's just give him ten more years and I'm sure he will turn it around.
Inhoc and plz, when should we expect a good team? Just wondering if I can tune out for a few years before we start being respectable.
This is year 4. O'brienade tastes like Lemonade without the sugar.
Ok, so what is this guy's connection to NC State? There has to be one somewhere.
Kindle [Sergio Kindle, Baltimore Ravens rookie LB from Texas] fell down two flights of stairs at a house in Austin, Texas, on Thursday night. Harbaugh said that Kindle took a wrong turn after waking up in the middle of the night, resulting in his fall.
A recent study found that 35% of men have been injured while undoing a woman's bra.
That's correct. While unfastening a woman's stabilizing devise, men have received strained tendons, scratches, and other similar injuries.
Actually, I can vouch for that. I got injured today while trying to undo a woman's bra. When I undid the woman in front of me in the checkout line, she turned and hit me with a can of peas.
Be proactive, you say? I know of one, my Lit 101 prof at State. Prior to one of her heavy weighted essays she said, " You will have this completed by next wednesday. No excuses other than dire injury."
I, smart ass jock, raised my right hand, " Does extreme sexual exhaustion qualify? "
" Why yes, Mr. Cowdog. However, athlete that you are, I should suspect an ability to compose with your left hand. "
This litter patrol did not happen at BC. If I'm Obie, I'm goin' thru the yellow pages, thumbing under T.
Tuscarora...shaman.
"Left hand"??? LOL!!!! You must be "amphibious" too!!
Recruiting players too dang small to play at a high BCS level is the coach's fault. When you are 60% the size of your opponent , you are going to get hurt.
It's pretty dang simple, minus the occosional 4:00 AM car accident. But even Nate was hurt a couple times during the previous season. I've said it before, and it will still be a problem this year. Just look on the field when you go to the game.
Well, at this point you just have to hope someone steps up in camp and shows some skill to handle the position. If it's just one true freshmen in the backfield, I'm okay with it. The problem was last year no one had experience. Maybe one guy can pick it up faster than four. I dont know, lets just hope this doesn't continue into the season...
Pack Mentality-
I agree with you that one year is a bad luck, two years is a fluke, but after that you have to look at the trend.
But, I wonder if this goes deeper than TOB and staff. Didn't Amato have injury issues his last couple teams? I honestly can't remember but it seems like he did.
I KNOW the basketball team had a HUGE trend of injury issues for a while.
About a year ago, some of the authors here teased the readers/posters with some information regarding the sports medicine program at NCSU. If that write up ever came out, I sure missed it. But it was most definitely hinted that our injury problems were across the entire athletics dept., not just any one program, and that some fundamental differences in our sports medicine dept. might very well have at least some bearing on that.
MODS: If that piece was ever posted, how about resurrecting it for an encore? If not, anyone who knows any info, can you share it?
The water in raleigh makes you have weak bones
Carbon footprints are heavier in Raleigh. It's all tied in to global warming, Algore, and massage therapists.
We graduate engineers that produce and develop. We have a nuclear reactor on campus. We ridicule the smurfs. It should be clear to all. Mother Earth is wreaking her vengeance.
Poor conditioning and training methods comes to mind for sports injuries. I wonder if this could be the case?
The coach has nothing to do with the injuries. If it wasnt for the scale of them the past 2 years I would agree that it shouldnt affect how I judge TOB. But it does affect it.
Ugh! So sick and tired of this! We had a long drawn-out thread the last time this popped up, but maybe it's changed the atmosphere a little since we see it might, yet again, be the excuse for non-performance. TOB's poor record is a direct result of 'all the injuries he's had to deal with'. There are a few other things, but run with this a little. If that's the case, and it's the main reason we give him a pass on his poor performance the past few seasons, when does it stop? I asked this question before, but I guess when you don't think you're going to have to put your money where your mouth is, it's easier to answer. When you say, "There's is no way in Hell we can have a fourth year with so many injuries! This must be TOB's year." then the specter of injuries turns it's head again, what do you say?
"Well, TOB has just had the worst luck in the history of the ACC... we really shouldn't fire him based on 'bad luck', should we?" You bet your sweet ass we should! If you buy into the "bad luck" theory, you probably have to believe, after 4 years, that TOB is bringing it. I'm sorry, Tom, but NC State does a good job of bringing it's own bad luck to the field without you adding to it.
