Any shot of good season, 8 or 9 wins. It seems to me that TOB is setting expectations very low.
A little early for FB isn't it?
Personally, I don't see 8 or 9 wins.
Realistically 7 and 5 and a bowl game is as high as I'm going until I see how we do at the beginning of a season. Its time we don't have a "slow start." We should be 2 and 1 after the first games, and we'll just see how we do on the road vs. GT, Clemson, MD, ECU and UNC, if we go 3 and 2 there I'll be happy, and if we can do 2 and 2 against FSU, VT, WFU and BC at home. We should be able to compete at home successfully with those teams, but if our run defense can't handle the BC wild cat, then I'm unsure.
TOB doesn't have the luxury of low expectations at this point. In his 4th year, there is no reason to not have marked improvement. I suspect we will squeeze out a 6-6 season with a crappy bowl appearance, that will keep him off the hot seat. However, I will not let my optimism set my expectations this coming year, as long as Archer is DC. He has never proven his D can stop anyone, so we have to outscore the opponents with high power offense. That is never a formula that proves consistently effective.
If Russell Wilson returns there is hope for a winning record, if he doesn't, it's going to be a bad season.
VAwolf...what else is there. The great basketball team?
If RW returns, I expect us to be better in all facets of the game except running back -- where I hope the improved OL offets the hole left by Baker & Eugene.
But, we play a BRUTAL schedule.
One has to hope that we are due from some friggin breaks, aren't we?
I'm looking at 7ish wins. Really wish it could/would be more by this point in TOBs tenure.
Six or seven wins would be a pleasant surprise, IMO. I don't think the defense is going to be any better, with or without Nate Irving. I think we're still looking at the same problems last year that we had this year. It's not a particularly athletic team. We don't employ very imaginative schemes.
We're better than we were when Amato was here. Slightly.
Variable, variable, variable. If history repeats itself, we'll look to be an 8 win team, then suffer injuries throughout the entire starting defense and go 3-9. If the defense stays healthy, I'm guessing 6-6. I think Glennon will be good, but I don't expect a consistent performance from him. The one thing he may have working for him is a fresh class of linemen. Obviously I'm assuming RW doesn't play at starting QB for all or part of the season.
Psychic: We'll lose to Cinci, Clemson and either BC or FSU then probably lay an egg or two out of division. Clemson will beat us by 28 and it will be on ESPN.
I think one of the more interesting story lines will be the O-Line. In particular, is Mattes going to be back, will Crisp be the starting right tackle, will Wentz start at center, who starts at LG? A lot of questions we some decent options.
Take away already is that there are a lot of questions to be answered -- which is not what you expect in Year Four of a TOB program
I see Glennon going down due to injury if he has to start. We've been plagued with injuries and I don't think that's going to change next season.
Statefans is right, a lot of questions all over the place? Places of concern have to be DL, Secondary, QB, OL. If the OL comes together that will take care of the RB problem.
fan13, I agree. Glennon looks puny out there. Maybe it's the height? I don't know. I just see him struggling this year if he has to start. I fully expect the defense to be essentially the same as last year.....
So, 6-6 seems like a miracle season to me. My prediction is that most teams will score at least 28 points against us. UNC may not unless they find an offense. Clemson & GT will probably eat our lunch. But, we have to be due against BC this year, right?
But, we have to be due against BC this year, right?
We are NC State.
^ Glennon looks like he should be on the cross country team. I wouldn't start him until he looks like his physical development has caught up to his big frame.
Obviously I'm assuming RW doesn't play at starting QB for all or part of the season.
Remind me again why you're doing that?
Noah, is right on here. Wilson needs to really hit higher then .230 to have any shot of getting drafted in the first 15 rounds.
Remind me again why you're doing that?
Lowballing. Believe it or not, I've tried to never get my hopes up before a football season if there is some uncertaintly. RW won't be at spring training so I think you can expect to see Glennon getting some significant playing time. TOB is a pretty conservative coach which would make you thinking he sticks with RW until he leaves, but I also think TOB is in unfamiliar territory being this late in his tenure with no better of a team than he has.
Basically, I'm not concerned about RW going to MLB. I'm concerned about TOB deciding he needs to play Glennon significantly and get him ready to start.

13, looks tough to me. After looking at the schedule, I am thinking 5-7.
^ Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Cincinatti, and Clemson are going to be ugly. On top of that 9/12 of our opponents made it to bowl games last year. 5-7 is going to be tough.
Well, I was wrong about our 28 point loss to Clemson being on ESPN. Instead we will lose by 28 against Cinci and FSU on ESPN on Thursday night.. and NC State's reputation continues it's digging.
EDIT: Actually, in the wake of Bowden leaving, how is FSU looking this season?
Cincinatti is losing will be with out Pike and Kelly. Here is the way I see it:

better then us
^ 09, They have a top 10 recruiting class with 2 five stars and 8 ESPN150 signings. That and Christian Ponder should be back. Not really looking forward to that one.
We will be lucky if we go 4-8 against that schedule. I'm thinking 3-9 and I could also see 2-12.
I sure wish we could have a team so stacked that a monkey could run things and they'de still win. We could hire Chuck back.
great we can get embarassed TWICE next yr on national TV. yippee
didnt Cincy lose something like 19 starters or off the 2-deep?
