"The continued deification of Herb Sendek by commentators is both nauseating and amusing at the same time. My God, what would they say about him if he either: (a) won something, or (b) actually was over .500 for his career in conference play?"

So what does it say about me that the first time I read this I saw "defecation" as opposed to "deification"??? :)

I've read that RoyBoy has tried to keep Turgeon from coaching in the ACC. I believe Turgeon coached for Roy and potentially Turgeon could replace Roy.

Sorry about that. I can't find the Rivals BB team rankings now.

Only Howell ranks in the Rivals top 100. Painter and Wood rank 127 and 133.

This entire class?

I find that almost impossible with 3 Top 100 players not including Brown.

This is a steller class.

I think it is rated #52 by Rivals w/o Brown.

Most of the accolades about "stellar" included Lorenzo Brown.

Considering Howell & Painter were both Top 75 players - and some services had them Top 50 - and Wood was a Top 100 player, then I think 'stellar' is a fair depiction (when you include Brown).

At this point, Vandeberg & Davis both look a lot better than I expected...which doesn't make the class 'stellar'...but certainly enhances my view of it.

So "being able to contribute" is how you define a class?

I am sorry but says little about the recruiting class and a lot about our current talent level. This is a class full of role players on a team full of role players. He needs to follow up next years class with another similar class. One will just not cut it.

This is a steller class. Painter at one time bfore being injured was ranked much higher. More important than the rankings though is the fact that all 4 will be able to contribute. There is not a rouldra thomas or justin flat in the group.

I thought this was supposed to be some stellar class. Take away Brown and it is not that much to brag about. Lowe has only had one great class so far and that is next years.

Also, NC State go another slight mention in the national media today, Yahoo Sports writer Jason King has us listed as one of his suprising starts and has moved us up to ninth in the ACC power rankings ahead of Florida State, Boston College, and Virginia.

• North Carolina State, which finished 10th in the ACC last season, is 4-0 with wins over Auburn and Akron. Coach Sidney Lowe needs his team to put forth a strong showing in 2009-10 or he will surely start feeling some heat.

9. N.C. State (4-0) – Forward Tracy Smith is averaging a double-double. (12)

10. Florida State (3-1) – The Seminoles lost to unranked Florida 68-52. Not good. (8)

10. Boston College (3-2) – It looks like it could be a long season in Chestnut Hill. (9)

11. Virginia (4-2) – The Cavaliers need even more from Sylven Landesberg. (11)

(1) Richard Howell is now practicing with the Wolfpack. If he is as versatile and tenacious as advertised, his presence will be a welcome addition. (Link)

"Richard practiced Tuesday for the first time for a full practice," Lowe said. "He had two 45-minute practices prior to us going down to Daytona, so we're trying to work him back in now. Obviously his conditioning is a factor and getting accustomed to the sets and things we're running."

Howell is a 6-foot-8 266 pound forward from Marietta, GA and is the only Wolfpack freshman that was ranked in Rivals.com's Top 100 players for the 2009 class.

"He's got quick feet, and Richard is an excellent passer," Lowe said. "He'll be an excellent pick n' pop player, inside he's got some stuff with that big body and he actually runs the floor well.

(2) Future Wolfpack opponent, Marquette, is off to a better start than expected and just defeated Xavier. Marquette is now 5-0. (Link)

(3) Fascinating perspective from Jeff Goodman about this bad Carolina fans. (Link) Using Lee Fowler's stated line of thinking it doesn't make any sense that any coach would ever want to coach somewhere that has such illogical expectations. Kind of like this situation at Notre Dame.

I don't live in Chapel Hill: After saying that North Carolina isn't a Final Four-caliber squad this season due to various weaknesses, I can only imagine what it would be like to live down there this year with all the unrealistic Tar Heels homers who are unable to see that Larry Drew II isn't Ty Lawson or Raymond Felton, that the Tar Heels don't have enough perimeter shooting and they lack a guy who can get his own with the game on the line.

(4) Adopted-favorite Clemson was upset by Texas A&M. I'm a big Mark Turgeon fan.

(5) Our adopted Texas Longhorns have lost one of their starting guards but they've got enough talent to weather the storm. (Link)

(6) Great conversation on the forums the last couple of days. (Link)

(7) Goodman says the Pac 10 is awful and is so bad that they may only send one team to the Big Dance in March. (Link)

At this rate, the Pac-10 may only have one team dancing come March.

It began with Oregon State losing a pair in Lubbock to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas Tech two weeks ago.

Stanford has lost to San Diego and Oral Roberts.

UCLA dropped one in double-overtime to Cal State Fullerton.

Cal got sent back from New York City with a pair of losses to Syracuse and Ohio State.

And then the Pac-10 got taken to the woodshed by a pair of WCC teams over the weekend — neither of which was named Gonzaga.

Loyola Marymount, a team that won all of three games last season, went into the Galen Center and took care of USC. Portland handed Oregon its first setback, and then Oregon State continued its miserable start with a loss to Sacramento State out of the Big Sky.

But the Pac-10 has several résumé wins, right?

Um, no.

Arizona State has gotten off to a somewhat surprising 4-0 start, but Herb Sendek has gotten fat on cupcakes (Texas State, Western Illinois, San Francisco and TCU). Same for Washington State and Arizona, each of which remain unbeaten.

Ahhh...cupcakes...where have I heard that before?
